One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and recently Malawi. Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2013, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 180% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

About The Role

  • The Chief of Staff is a strategic and operational partner to the Country Director, ensuring the execution of organizational priorities and alignment across departments. You will provide high-level support through project coordination, strategic planning, and leadership enablement, directly contributing to One Acre Fund Nigeria’s mission of improving farmer livelihoods. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct managerial responsibilities.
  • You will report directly to the Country Director. This role is based in Minna, Nigeria and is onsite.

Responsibilities
Strategic Support & Leadership Enablement

  • Serve as a thought partner to the Country Director providing analysis, insights, and recommendations on key organizational issues.
  • Translate high-level strategy into actionable plans, tracking progress on the Country Director’s priorities and organizational goals.
  • Coordinate strategic initiatives across departments to ensure alignment and execution.
  • Conduct research and industry analysis to support decision-making.

Cross-Departmental Coordinator and Stakeholder Management

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between the Country Director and departmental leaders, ensuring clarity of expectations and follow-through on commitments.
  • Support relationship management with key external stakeholders, including donors, government partners, and strategic allies.

Project Management

  • Lead and manage special projects on behalf of the Country Director from conception to delivery.
  • Coordinate multi-team initiatives, ensuring milestones are met within budget and scope.
  • Monitor progress against strategic priorities and provide regular updates.
  • Oversee the efficient functioning of the Country Director’s office, ensuring smooth workflows and optimal use of time.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and briefing materials for internal and external engagements.
  • Support Board and senior leadership meeting preparation, including agenda setting, documentation, and follow-up actions.

Executive Assistance and Administration

  • Manage the Country Director’s calendar, travel logistics, and meeting coordination.
  • Screen and prioritize incoming requests, communications, and invitations.

Ensure confidential information is handled with professionalism.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Management, Development Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 4 years in roles combining strategic support, project management, and executive operations, ideally gained in management consulting, corporate strategy, high-growth business operations, social enterprise, or international development.
  • Proven ability to work closely with senior leadership to drive strategy execution and results.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing cross-departmental projects and ensuring alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • English required.
