Main Purpose:
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.

Job Description
- Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and
assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures. - Assists the doctors during their daily rounds and keeps them informed of the
progress of each patient - Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
- Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment.
- Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit.
- Ensures triage of patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies
- Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration)
- Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in
data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed. - Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs. inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorisation, etc.)
- Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Fol-lowing the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures
- Participating in msf strategies of staff development (in ensuring teamwork and adherence to trainings, meetings…)
- Ensuring all rapid test ( RDT, HB, Glucose …) requested by doctors are done in the ward without delay , and participating in urine test , stools sample collection
- Carry out his job with respect to MSF principles and patient confidentiality

Accountabilities
Basic hygiene rules
•Knows and applies universal precautions and infections control in medical premises, ensuring asepsis during all nursing cares, as well as quality sterilisation procedures.
•Follows the procedure for sorting waste
•Follows the procedures in the case of accidental blood exposure
•Ensures the cleanliness of his working environment: regularly cleaning the work place, equipment, work surfaces, etc.
•Ensuring patient cleanliness on arrival and during their hospitalization (shower, soap distribution, mattresses/mats, pre-operative preparation following the protocol

Emergencies
•Ensure triage of patients in waiting, ward or during emergecies,detecting the priory acute/emergency cases, carrying
out first aid care necessary and referring them to the doctor.
•If applicable, identify sexually Gender Based violence victims and refer them to the medical team, so they can receive
the necessary treatment.
•Knows and is aware of the importariate use of the post Exposure prohylaxis(PEP) kit
•Sends material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization.
Drugs and material
•Looks after all equipment provided.
•Ensures that no material is taken out of nursing area and wards without prior authorisation.
•Carryout the bi weekly inventary of drugs and ensure proper management of all drugs under control.
•Keeps an updated inventory of all material and equipment used and ask in advance for all renewable material needed.
•Carries out stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover(check list for both materials and drugs)
•Sends material to be sterilized/recuperating it from sterilization
•Informs line manager of the various needs or of any problems linked to equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).
Documentation
•Records in individual patient’s card and registration books all nursing activities performed.
•Records in each patient’s card quantities and type of drugs taken. Replace with: Records in each patient´s chart
drugs administered, dose, and time.
•Records daily, weekly and monthly consumptions of drugs given.
Fills in the handover book, noting everything that happened during the shift and any changes in prescription or
patients to be followed up
•Fills out nurse liaison forms during the transfer of a patient
•Promotes and maintains confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records.
•
Reporting
•Informs medical staff about any possible serious problem or complication, ex. worsening of state of patients,
problems in medicines, etc.
•Ensures an oral handover to next duty team regarding patients and their status.
•Informs line manager of any problems that might be linked to work of nurses as well as problematic equipment or
material (ex. broken, missing).
•Participates in the medical team meeting for exchanging information on the state of the patients
Operation Theater
•Assess patients prior to surgery : ensure the patients is NPO status. Surgical site preparation (hair removal),cateters
insertion.
•Evaluate the patient in postoperative phase, monitor the patient’s health providing appropriate care and treatment
until the patient has recovered from the effects of anesthesia and /or surgery.
•Assess the patients to ensure they can be discharged back to a ward.
•Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all the activities of post-surgery
For new arrival Activity Nurses in charge
•Ensure health and nutritional assessment of new arrival(retunees); assess vital signs , general condition and MUAC
screening for children under 5 yearss old and do refferal to the hospital if further investigation and medical management are required .Do refferal to psychological and SGBV case management when needed .
•Provide nursing first aid care to sick retunees.
•Ensure reporting for advocacy of vulnarable persons in detention.
•Ensure documentation of all information regarding new arrival/escapees in the registration book.
•Ensure data collection and reporting are done weekly, monthy and submitted line manager
- Participating in msf strategies of staff development (in ensuring teamwork and adherence to trainings, meetings…)

Requirements:
Education
•Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma
•Desirable bachelor’s in science of nursing
Experience
•Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s.
•Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting
Language
Essential English and Hausa languages are desirable
