We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: General Secretary / CEO

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Opening

  • The General Secretary/CEO is the head of the Secretariat and reports directly to the Board through the Chairman. He or she is expected to direct, manage, and coordinate all the activities of the Secretariat, including
  • The implementation of all various policies of the YMCA of Lagos and activities designed to achieve the vision, values, and Mission of the YMCA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meeting & Secretariat Management: Organize statutory meetings, handle correspondence, take minutes, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the Secretariat.
  • Policy Implementation & Governance: Implement Association policies, manage governing documents, and oversee compliance with resolutions.
  • Financial & Business Oversight: Manage accounts, oversee business arms, develop budgets, and monitor grants and commercial investments.
  • Membership & Strategic Partnerships: Recruit and manage members, maintain the membership register, and build relationships with key partners for policy and program development.
  • Project Development & Representation: Contribute to project design, draft funding proposals, explore collaboration opportunities, and represent the Association at relevant events and networks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of a First Degree in Social Science, Administration, Development, or related subject.
  • An MA, MSc., or MBA / professional certification will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience, some of which must be at a management level.
  • Age between 25 to 50 years.
  • The position of the General Secretary is contractual for 2 years, subject to renewal.

Key Skills Required:

  • Organizational & Administrative Skills: Ability to plan and coordinate meetings, handle correspondence effectively, oversee Secretariat operations, and maintain accurate records.
  • Leadership &Team Management: Strong supervisory skills to coordinate Secretariat staff and implement policies effectively.
  • Financial & Business Acumen-Proficiency in budget planning, financial management, grant monitoring, and identifying commercial opportunities.
  • Communication & Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal and networking skills to recruit members, engage with partners, and represent the Association at events.
  • Project Management & Proposal Writing: Ability to design projects, draft funding proposals, develop strategies, and manage collaborations with research and policy organizations.
