Job Title: Finance Assistant
Location: Roving, Borno
Reports to: Finance Officer
Duration: 6 months
Contract Type: Full-time
Position Summary
The Finance Assistant will provide critical support to POWIB’s Finance Department by managing day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, assisting with budget tracking, and supporting audits. This role ensures that financial operations comply with organizational policies and donor regulations, contributing to the smooth delivery of POWIB’s humanitarian programs. Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations:
- Process payments and maintain proper financial documentation for all transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of bank and cash reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Record, track, and reconcile advances and expenditures.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain financial records including ledgers, vouchers, invoices, and receipts.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial reports for internal management and donor submissions.
- Ensure all payment requests and supporting documents are complete and compliant with POWIB policies.
Budget and Compliance Support:
- Track project expenditures against approved budgets and flag variances.
- Assist Finance Officer with internal and external audits, providing required documentation promptly.
- Ensure financial procedures are followed in coordination with procurement and program teams.
Team Collaboration:
- Support the Finance Officer in budget monitoring, reporting, and field financial operations.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial processing.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and NGO financial procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and numerical abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced humanitarian setting.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in finance or accounting, preferably in an NGO or humanitarian organization.
- Experience with donor-funded projects (NHF, UN, INGO) is an advantage.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is desirable.
