Position: Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Supervisor – Bauchi

Main Purpose
Plan, organize, implement, supervise, monitor and analyze the results of an infection control program in a project or health facility, according to MSF/MoH protocols, safety and IPC measures, in order to ensure quality of care and safety of patients, caretakers and staff.
Job Description
-
Carry out infection prevention and control (IPC) functions and tasks.
-
Maintain and support day-to-day IPC practices in all departments including sterilization, laundry, and kitchen.
-
Collaborate with medical teams to evaluate IPC needs for transmission-based precautions (air, droplet, contact).
-
Ensure adherence to transmission-based precautions and monitor compliance.
-
Provide supervision, training, and support to staff on IPC issues using audits, checklists, or surveillance.
-
Ensure facility organization: bed spacing, handwashing stations, clean/dirty flows, and essential WASH requirements.

Improve compliance with aseptic techniques and correct use of disinfectants and antiseptics.

Monitor IPC material/equipment consumption (cleaning materials, PPE, etc.).

Actively participate in IPC Committee, developing and following up on action plans.

Respond to epidemics and outbreaks, activate contingency plans, and support outbreak committees.

Participate in antimicrobial stewardship, nursing care, and IPC-related quality of care.

Carry out HR-related tasks: recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, coaching.

Provide regular reports and meeting minutes on IPC activities.

Ensure strict adherence of IPC measures by staff, patients, and caregivers in the DTC.

Oversee proper waste segregation and disposal in collaboration with WASH.

Assess IPC gaps and organize training.

Build capacity of MoH teams for sustainability and collaborate with MoH.

Any other responsibility assigned by the line manager.
Note:
IPC standard precautions include hand hygiene, patient placement, PPE, sterilization, aseptic techniques, safe waste and linen management, environmental cleaning, respiratory hygiene, and staff/patient individual hygiene.
Requirements
Education
-
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science or Midwifery (essential).

Certification or degree in IPC (preferable).
Experience
-
Previous experience working with MSF or other INGOs (preferable).
Languages
-
English (essential).

Hausa (desirable).
Knowledge

Basic competencies in Microsoft Word and Excel (essential).
