Position: Gardener / Cleaner
Location: ABUJA
Job description
- If you are passionate about maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, and enjoy caring for plants and outdoor spaces, this role is for you. We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented individual to ensure our office, guest facilities, and surrounding environment remain neat, organized, and conducive for work. This position requires dedication, physical fitness, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- With oversight from the Administrative Officer, you will ensure daily cleaning, waste management, and plant care activities are carried out effectively to maintain a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing workspace. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:
Workspace Maintenance
- Ensure common areas (front desk, conference rooms, meeting rooms, verandas) are swept, mopped, dusted, and organized daily.
- Clean individual offices: sweep, mop, dust, and wipe surfaces of chairs, desks, ACs, and fans.
- Clean glass doors, windows, blinds, and decorative items daily.
- Sweep and mop balconies and surrounding environments.
- Conduct daily checks for cobwebs, wasp nests, and insects.
Kitchen, Restroom, Waste & Guest Facility Care
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, restrooms, waste bins, and guest chalet, ensuring all areas remain neat, organized, and welcoming at all times
Inventory Management
- Monitor and restock cleaning consumables (detergents, soaps, disinfectants, toilet rolls, paper towels) before depletion.
Equipment Maintenance
- Clean, maintain, and store all cleaning equipment after use.
Gardening and Landscaping
- Water, weed, prune, and fertilize crops and ornamental plants.
- Monitor plant health and report pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies.
- Apply approved pesticides/herbicides as directed by the Agronomist Intern.
- Mow lawns, trim hedges/trees, and maintain flowerbeds.
- Ensure pathways and external environments are clean and free of debris.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Conduct daily inspections of plants and environment.
- Submit weekly reports to the Agronomist Intern on crop growth, pest control, and landscape activities.
Support for Urban Farming Goals
- Assist in implementing sustainable practices (composting, organic manure application).
- Participate in occasional training and demonstration sessions.
Additional Duties
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management.
Working Relationships
The Gardener/Cleaner will report to the Administrative Officer and work closely with the Agronomist Intern and other staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Competency
- Attention to Detail: Maintains high cleanliness standards across all spaces.
- Reliability: Consistently carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Physical Stamina: Able to carry out physically demanding tasks daily.
- Team Player: Works effectively with colleagues to achieve common goals.
- Basic Plant Knowledge: Familiarity with watering, pruning, and plant care techniques.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum of SSCE or equivalent.
- At least 1–2 years’ experience in cleaning, facility maintenance, or gardening.
- Knowledge of safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Experience with basic gardening and landscaping is an added advantage.
