Global Rights is an international human rights and governance capacity-building non-governmental organization. Founded in Washington, D.C, in 1978 with the name International Human Rights Law Group, the organization changed its name to Global Rights: Partners for Justice in 2003 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. In December 2014 it shut its Washington headquarters and devolved the center of its operations to its country office in Nigeria, from where the organization continues to work with local activists in Africa to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Program Support Volunteer
Locations: Shuni District, Dange Shuni LGA (Sokoto South Senatorial District), Chimola District, Gwadabawa LGA (Sokoto East Senatorial District), Gagi District (Sokoto North Senatorial District), Kware District (Sokoto North Senatorial District) – Sokoto
Key Responsibilities
- Provide free legal advice and support to survivors of SGBV at police stations.
- Represent clients during police questions, bail hearings, and other relevant legal procedures.
- Facilitate referrals to courts, Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs), and other justice-related services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all legal services and client interactions.
- Collaborate with law enforcement officers, SARCs, and community response teams to improve survivor outcomes.
- Participate in trainings related to SGBV, trauma-informed care, legal ethics, and community justice.
- Prepare and submit timely reports and updates to the project team as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister-at-Law (BL); must be called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-call experience, preferably in criminal law, human rights law, or legal aid work.
- Demonstrated experience working with survivors of SGBV or other vulnerable groups is a strong advantage.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian legal and criminal justice systems, especially as they relate to gender justice.
- Knowledge of English and Hausa
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
