About the Project
Malaria continues to be one of the world’s most pressing health issues—especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2022 alone, 249 million cases were reported with 608,000 deaths, most among children under five. With progress slowing, innovative strategies are essential.
Malaria Consortium, in partnership with Gavi, is conducting implementation research in Nigeria to evaluate a hybrid model of malaria vaccine delivery that ensures children are protected during high-transmission seasons. This model combines routine immunization with seasonal demand creation and follow-up.
This project is being implemented in Kebbi State, and we are seeking Interviewers / Facilitators to support our data collection efforts.
Position: Interviewer / Facilitator
Purpose of the Assignment:
To conduct qualitative data collection, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and implementation of the hybrid malaria vaccine model.
Key Responsibilities

Attend training on the use of data collection tools and protocols.

Participate in pre-testing and finalization of interview and FGD guides.

Recruit and engage eligible participants for FGDs.
-
Facilitate and record FGDs and KIIs in selected communities.

Transcribe and translate interview/FGD recordings into English.

Maintain anonymity and confidentiality of participants.
-
Submit completed interviews, transcriptions, and daily activity reports.

Report challenges and support the Research Team in ensuring data quality and integrity.
Expected Deliverables
-
Completed and recorded FGDs and KIIs.
-
Transcriptions and English translations of all audio recordings.
-
Daily summaries and debriefs submitted to the Research Team Lead.
Study Methodology
-
Conducted in 3 LGAs in Kebbi State.
-
Purposive sampling to ensure diversity in participant representation.
-
FGDs held in community settings; KIIs conducted in person or virtually.

All activities will be supervised and coordinated by the Research Team Lead.
Key Areas of Assessment

Acceptability: Community and health worker satisfaction with the hybrid delivery model.

Appropriateness: Perceived relevance and fit of seasonal messaging and delivery methods.

Practicality & Sustainability: Health system readiness, logistics, and long-term viability.

Adoption & Fidelity: Uptake and consistent implementation by health personnel and CHWs.
Qualifications
Essential:
-
OND, HND, or B.Sc in a relevant discipline.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in qualitative data collection (FGDs, KIIs).
-
Proficiency in spoken Hausa and written English.
-
Attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.

Ability to use electronic recording devices.
Preferred:
-
Residence in Kebbi State.
-
Previous experience with Malaria Consortium or in SMC programming.

Familiarity with participatory data collection methodologies.

Self-motivated and able to work independently.
