The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Programme Monitoring and Improvement (PMI) Officer

Locations: Lagos, Kano, Nasarawa
Job type: Full Time (Onsite)
Classification: Grade 3
Travel required: 40%

Overall Purpose

  • The position will provide technical and operational support for project monitoring across the GAIN Nigeria project portfolio.
  • The role will assist in the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) activities by conducting routine data collection activities, supporting the generation of credible evidence on programme progress, and ensuring that monitoring data is complete, accurate, reliable, and accessible for programme learning and decision making.
  • The position will report to the Programme Monitoring and Improvement Coordinator, GAIN Nigeria, and will work closely with the Knowledge Leadership (KL) and Country Programme  Teams.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Programme Monitoring and Improvement:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programme theories of change, logic models, results frameworks, and MEAL plans.
  • Support the implementation of MEAL activities at field level.
  • Support the design and deployment of digital data collection tools on platforms such as SurveyCTO and CommCare, ensuring accuracy, usability, and smooth synchronization with a centralized MIS platform.
  • Train enumerators and implementing partner field staff on data collection protocols, digital tools, and ethical standards to ensure high quality and reliable data.
  • Conduct routine data collection to track project performance, adhering to ethical and approved standards.
  • Support the review of data feeding into the MIS by conducting data quality checks and validations on SurveyCTO and CommCare submissions before transmission to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Support data cleaning, analysis, interpretation, and visualization to generate timely, relevant and actionable insights to guide programme decisions.
  • Provide field support for research studies and evaluations as required.
  • Document programme lessons, including insights from participant feedback, and support the development of learning outputs.

Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work with the PMI Coordinator to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality routine monitoring and reporting by implementing partners.
  • Assist in disseminating monitoring insights and learnings to programme teams and other stakeholders, and track follow-up actions where required.
  • Support the development of project reports that meet internal quality standards and donor reporting requirements.
  • Support the capacity strengthening of implementing partners in MEAL practices.
  • Assist the development of annual work plans and budgets, ensuring MEAL requirements are adequately reflected.

Key Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to the Programme Monitoring and Improvement, Coordinator
  • Works closely with Programme, Communications, KL and Country Management Team (CMT).
  • Liaises with implementing partners, government, and other external stakeholders.

Requirements
Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s level qualification in Nutrition, Public Health, Data Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, or related field.
  • Professional certifications in MEAL and data analysis.

Experience:

  • Experience implementing monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems for development programmes.
  • Experience conducting monitoring, evaluation, research and learning activities.
  • Proven expertise in using Management Information Systems.
  • Practical experience in designing informative dashboards for programme monitoring using tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

Competencies:

  • Good knowledge of project management.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools such as SPSS, Stata, R, and Python, and data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Skilled in designing digital data collection tools using platforms such as SurveyCTO and CommCare.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to communicate results clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a global multicultural team.
  • Organized and able to effectively prioritize tasks, manage deliverables, and meet deadlines.
