Location: Katsina State -Batsari, Danmusa, Dutsinma, Kurfi and Safana LGAs
Contract Duration: 3 Months with possibility of renewing.
Reports to: Nutrition Coordinator
Job Purpose:
The Nutrition Officer will provide technical leadership and field supervision for the implementation of community-based nutrition activities across the targeted LGAs. The officer will oversee the functioning of Tom Brown care groups, supervise Nutrition Assistants, Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs), facilitators, and lead mothers, and ensure effective coordination with the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) for quality programme implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Implementation and Supervision
- Supervise Nutrition Assistants in collaboration with KSPHCDA and ensure quality implementation of programme activities.
- Supervise community nutrition activities, including screening, enrolment, follow-up and growth monitoring of beneficiaries.
- Oversee the selection and engagement of Lead Mothers across targeted communities.
- Supervise the biweekly Tom Brown preparation and distribution activities conducted by care groups.
- Ensure programme activities are implemented according to WFP Tom Brown programme standards.
Training and Capacity Building
- Train and mentor Nutrition Assistants, Facilitators, Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs), and Lead Mothers on:
- WFP Tom Brown implementation standards
- MUAC screening and beneficiary identification
- Community-based nutrition monitoring
- Proper preparation and hygiene practices for Tom Brown blended flour.
Community Screening and Case Identification
- Supervise community screening activities including house-to-house MUAC screening.
- Ensure proper identification and enrolment of eligible beneficiaries.
- Oversee follow-up visits and growth monitoring for enrolled beneficiaries.
Programme Coordination
- Coordinate with KSPHCDA and other stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of project activities.
- Coordinate the redemption of grains at vendor sites alongside programme staff and KSPHCDA representatives.
- Support the distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs) required for Tom Brown production and care group activities.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of programme data tools across all Tom Brown groups.
Monitoring, Data Management and Reporting
- Ensure accurate documentation of programme activities and beneficiary data.
- Compile and share beneficiary lists with WFP as required.
- Ensure that data tools are correctly completed and submitted from all project sites.
- Prepare and submit monthly programme reports to the Nutrition Coordinator.
Incident Management
- Report programme incidents or operational challenges promptly to the Nutrition Coordinator.
Other Duties
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support programme implementation.
Education and experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor\’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in implementing community-based nutrition programs, preferably with a focus on MIYCN.
- Experience supervising and mentoring community health workers or nutrition staff.
- Strong understanding of national nutrition guidelines, MIYCN, IMAM, and integrated health and nutrition programming.
- Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and reporting skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in English and at least one relevant local language.
- Previous experience working in humanitarian or development contexts is an added advantage.
Additional Requirements
- Fluency in English and Hausa.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Candidates from the targeted LGAs are encouraged to apply.
Essential:
- Computer skills, especially in Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience in Electronic Data Collection.
- Previous track record monitoring nutrition projects across LGAs in Katsina state.
