HEDA Resource Centre is leading good governance, anti-corruption and environmental justice organizations in Nigeria, founded in November 2001 and duly incorporated in Nigeria in 2004 as a Non-Governmental Organization, incorporated trustees. The Centre conducts research, policy advocacy, training, as well as citizens’ awareness and mobilization around core human development and resource management issues under anti-corruption, food security, climate change, human rights, public sector accountability and electoral reform processes. Its vision is to see all persons in Africa, regardless of location and situation, have the freedom and ability to enjoy the benefits of good governance, and respect for human dignity in a sustainable environment. Its mission is to serve as a policy and campaign centre for research, training, and advocacy on the environment, good governance, anti-corruption, sustainable development and human rights.

Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Job Description

  • We are seeking a creative and proactive Communications Officer to manage the organisation’s internal and external communications.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for developing communication strategies, managing media relations, producing content, and promoting the organisation’s programs, advocacy initiatives, and public engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the organisation’s programmes and activities.
  • Create engaging content for press releases, newsletters, reports, and publications.
  • Manage the organisation’s social media platforms and website content.
  • Coordinate media engagements, interviews, and press briefings.
  • Support advocacy campaigns through strategic communication and public awareness initiatives.
  • Document programme activities through photos, videos, and stories.
  • Assist in producing communication materials, including brochures, flyers, and reports.
  • Maintain relationships with media organisations and journalists.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.
  • Provide communication support for events, conferences, and public engagements.
  • Mobilise different media houses for participation in HEDA’s various programs.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Must have 3-5 years’ relevant experience in communications, media, or public relations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and media engagement skills.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
