Program Assistant at Global Rights

Global Rights is an international human rights and governance capacity-building non-governmental organization. Founded in Washington, D.C, in 1978 with the name International Human Rights Law Group, the organization changed its name to Global Rights: Partners for Justice in 2003 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. In December 2014 it shut its Washington headquarters and devolved the center of its operations to its country office in Nigeria, from where the organization continues to work with local activists in Africa to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Program Assistant

Location: Abuja
Reports to: Program Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and technical assistance to the programs team to coordinate the successful implementation of project activities, especially the Civic Space Strengthening and Women’s Rights and Gender Equity programs including sub-themes such as Rape Is a Crime
  • Support the implementation of work plans and related program activities; and technical assistance to partners’ activities;
  • Assist in implementing capacity-building and advocacy projects,
  • Assist in providing technical support to partner NGOs in project states;
  • Support supervisor in conducting orientation, supervision and management of partner NGOs;
  • Write activity reports, and provide updates to management
  • Support the design and facilitation of trainings and other capacity building program activities for local NGOs and communities
  • Support supervisor to design, research, write and edit program related publications for wide distribution to stakeholders
  • Provide the Communications Unit with content for social media and other external communication platforms
  • Support the development of content for external communications, relationship building, and donor relations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of external relationships, particularly with partners, donors, and the media.
  • Support supervisor to administer and monitor sub-grant programs to partner organizations
  • Represent Global Rights at meetings and forums as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of two (2) years knowledge and/or experience working with human rights organizations
  • Understanding of gender, civic space strengthening, development and human rights issues in Nigeria
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Proven project management skills in complex, multi-faceted projects
  • Ability to provide practical solutions within set deadlines.
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills
  • Commitment to continuous Learning
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
