About First Embrace

First Embrace is an impact-focused charity dedicated to scaling Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), the World Health Organization’s gold standard of care for preterm and low-birth-weight (LBW) newborns. KMC involves continuous skin-to-skin contact and exclusive breastfeeding, which has been proven to increase neonatal survival by up to 40%.

As we prepare to launch additional KMC programs within large hospitals in Kano State, we are seeking dedicated healthcare professionals to join our mission of reducing neonatal mortality in Nigeria.

Vacancy: Registered Nurses

Role Summary: We are looking for experienced and compassionate nurses to facilitate the delivery of KMC. You will be at the forefront of a life-saving intervention, working directly with mothers and families to ensure that vulnerable newborns receive the warmth and nutrition they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Support: Monitor the health and vital signs of LBW babies and their mothers within dedicated KMC wards.
  • Education: Train and support mothers and caregivers in the practice of prolonged skin-to-skin contact and effective breastfeeding techniques.
  • Safety & Hygiene: Maintain strict infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols within the facility.
  • Monitoring: Identify early “danger signs” in newborns and coordinate immediate medical escalation when necessary.
  • Data Management: Accurate record-keeping of neonatal progress to contribute to program impact analysis.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid license to practice in Nigeria.
  • Previous experience in neonatal care, pediatrics, or maternity is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic counseling to families in Hausa and English.
  • A commitment to evidence-based healthcare and improving neonatal outcomes.
